James P. Carse, an American Professor for history and literature of religion at New York University, ones said “A finite game is played for the purpose of winning, an infinite game for the purpose of continuing the play.” And that is the key for authentically emerging innovations. What does that mean? Well, when we are free of concepts and ideas on how quickly and effectively we want our ideas and new innovations to produce an outcome.
In economy today there is little space for natural growth and undefined wins, but when we are about to create things new and exciting to the development of the human race, than we just can’t push the time. We have to receive ideas, chew on them, sit with them, gather details, link a lot of information in our mind and one day – when the time is right – we know what to do with it. And that is the natural approach of a child at play, with all our fire fully present, totally engaged with the situation, and totally free of a particular outcome at the same time.
Many smart people before me have collected their insides and thoughts about the magic of the divine child at play, you find some of their opinions below, together with 2 TED talks by Steven Johnson. He is an American Innovator and bestselling Author of the Book “Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation“. I highly recommend watching what he has to share about the nature of play and its important role in human growth, inspiration and innovation of “the new”.
“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.”
Lawrence Pearsall Jacks
“Combinatory play seems to be the essential feature in productive thought.”
“Healthy curiosity is a great key in innovation.”
Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha
“Keep in mind that imagination is at the heart of all innovation. Crush or constrain it and the fun will vanish.”
“The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect, but by the play instinct arising from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the object it loves.
Play is the highest form of research.
“Remember the two benefits of failure. First, if you do fail, you learn what doesn’t work; and second, the failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach.”
Roger Von Oech
“Dreamers are mocked as impractical. The truth is they are the most practical, as their innovations lead to progress and a better way of life for all of us.”
Robin S. Sharma
“Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.”
“The patterns are simple, but followed together, they make for a whole that is wiser than the sum of its parts. Go for a walk; cultivate hunches; write everything down, but keep your folders messy; embrace serendipity; make generative mistakes; take on multiple hobbies; frequent coffeehouses and other liquid networks; follow the links; let others build on your ideas; borrow, recycle; reinvent. Build a tangled bank.”
“Men do not quit playing because they grow old; they grow old because they quit playing.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
“Our wretched species is so made that those who walk on the well-trodden path always throw stones at those who are showing a new road.”
The heart of human excellence often begins to beat when you discover a pursuit that absorbs you, frees you, challenges you, or gives you a sense of meaning, joy, or passion.”
“This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.”
Alan W. Watts
Dear Ones, I hope you are filled with the spark of inspiration right now, that you are motivated to remember the wonderfully relaxed ways in which you have been playfully creating as a child, and that you will allow them to guide you to a new mindset. No matter if you are planing to become the most important innovator of the Golden Age of Aquarius, or if you are just looking for new ideas to create your personal life, a playful approach is always helpful.
Love and Blessings!
