Our Psychic Abilities Have Increased – Creating A Healing Friendship With Trees

onnenby Edith Boyer-Telmer

Dear Friends,
just a month ago, when we passed the powerful Pisces New Moon and Total Solar Eclipse, we collectively had the chance to open our physical channels and develop a deep inner connection with the elemental forces of nature. Just about a week ago, I talked about the fact that our psychic abilities have collectively increased, and that brings strength to this inner relationships. One of the realms we can exchange with, is the Kindom of the weeds, flowers, bushes and trees that are surrounding us. A conscious interaction between the Nature Kingdom and the human race, is as old as human life itself! Our pagan ancestors worshiped trees. In many traditions in Europe, trees are admired for their magical, healing and grounding powers.

A personal message to all my facebook friends!! FB is limiting the distribution of my posts daily more. If you resonate with my articles and are used to find my work  shared in a group, rather sign up on my newsletter here to make sure you get the information!!! Over time I might not be able to put in the FB time, if it does not lead to what it is about – SPREADING THE WORD ;-)!

It is known, that Plato and Aristotle received their deepest insights in the olive groves around Athens. Buddha found enlightenment beneath a bo tree, and Isaac Newton received his “gravity theory” while watching an apple fall from the tree, under which he was sitting.
Scientific research confirmed that simple being in a green environment reduces the human stress level and blood pressure, has a positive effect on mental illnesses, on depression, helps with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), concentration problems, increases your reaction time – as well as deeply nurtures body and soul. The sounds, smells, sights, the texture and the taste of the air tickle our senses, which leads to improved health and well-being.
So tree Hugging is not only for Hippies to the contrary, “let’s make it a fashion trend”!! Hugging a tree can boost our health and the happiness we feel about being alive, so don’t be shy!!
In order to create a new relationship with trees, the first step is to make sure you feel worthy to be their co-creative partner. Relax your mind and body, breath deeply and allow the subtle energies – that are their natural language of all existence – to create an energetic field for connection between you.
Trust and the trees will assist you to open your energy channels and come to inner calmness. This space of presence allows you to feel the energetic exchange. Just play with it! Confidence comes with practice!!m;kllHere is a short list of trees that are especially helpful to the human race, for our collective evolution process!

The excess to new dimensions from the BIRCH TREE:

Shamans, Druids and Celtics used the Birch wood tree to enter altered states of consciousness. It reminds us to live our life with purpose and master our personal energy field.

The energies of trust and faith from the CHERRY TREE:
Cherry trees whisper to us about the chance for a new awakening. They support us to remove all obstacles that are preventing our spiritual growth. It is the burning fire of the inner Phoenix, the rising from the ashes of the past. It stands for the cycles of re-birth, the self-creation of a new life after every mental death.

Access to universal energies from the ELM TREE:
Elm trees are channels for the higher vibrations of the divine. They help us get in touch with the invisible world behind the veil of human perception. For our personal soul path, they assist us in hearing our inner voice and to have faith in our intuition. On an energetic level the family collective of the Elm trees is stronger connected to each other, than any other tree species. A brotherhood of trees!

Harmony between heaven and earth from the HONEYSUCKLE TREE:
Honeysuckle is the perfect plant partner to empower the work of healer, light-worker and energy-worker. It awakens confidence for our creations, the use of psychic energies and the magnetic attraction required for manifestation on the material plane. It reminds us of our authentic personal power, our highest potential, the awakening to psychic abilities and the courage to follow our own beliefs.

A gateway between the worlds from the WISTERIA:
Wisteria provides us with a gateway between the human species and the divine realm. It is known as “the ecstasy of the poet”, as it helps us to awaken and draw in inspiration and good vibrations for divinely channeled creative process. The Wisteria flower serves us in the manifestation of our true self, as it activates the heart chakra and the throat chakra. On our path of illumination, it provides the needed spiritual influence to reach a higher state of consciousness.shaPower for your prayers from the BEECH TREE:
There is a legend reporting that Sanskrit, the most ancient language of prayer, has first been carved on a Beech bark. Therefor the power of the written word, spiritual wisdom, knowledge of the past and a love for literature are associated with this tree. It awakens tolerance and respect for all existence and helps with the alignment to the guidance of your higher self.

Balance between the female and the male forces from the MAPLE TREE:
Maple trees help strengthen our connection between Yin & Yang, the dance of the polarities, the electrical and the magnetic powers. They ground our psychic abilities and spiritual energies. Maple trees help women illuminate their inner fire, and supports men in the awakening of their feminine nurturing nature, their intuition and creativity.

Protection during inner transitions form the ALDER TREE:
The raven, a bird of great knowledge and perception, is associated with the Alder tree. The related element is water. The Alder reminds us by divine law, that everything is constantly in movement. So even when it seams like we are not moving forward at all, we do – only a bit slow. Patients is required now!

Alignment for your chakra centers from the LILAC:
The Lilac is the best partner to use in your meditating practice as it has the potential to connect us with our spirit guides. It attracts the help of protective spirits into our work and its healing power reminds us of the divine beauty within the individuality of all things. When used for aromatherapy, Lilac awakens mental clarity and freedom.

Regeneration and rejuvenation from the OLIVE TREE:
The Olive tree increases our sensitivity, our hope, our joy for life and our deepest longing for peace and harmonious relationships. It helps us develop the courage and honor of a spiritual warrior and is therefor associated with gods and goddesses like Pallas Athena, Poseidon and Zeus. Olive trees support our physical self-healing abilities and spiritual growth.jDear Ones, I wish you nurturing, healing experiences when you are getting in touch with your higher sensory abilities and the frequencies of the tree spirits!!! Remember the strongest connections can be achieved with the joyful, relaxed and lighthearted approach of a child!!! Have fun playing with our brothers and sisters from the Nature Kingdom!
Blessings and Nature Love!!

Why Human Beings Kiss in Romantic Relationships

jkby Edith Boyer-Telmer

Dear Friends,
some of you might remember that over the last few month I mentioned the new paradigm of sexuality and romantic relationships, that is now arising in the world. The one thing that I found funny on this article, is that the author is mentioning the Egyptian tradition and how ancient Egyptian art portraits rather breathing than kissing. And that is one of the most beautiful tools of connection between the sexes, an exchange of conscious breathing. I hope you are having a good time with this lovely read!!
Love and Big Kiss!!
Edith

A new study finds that half of human cultures don’t practice romantic lip-on-lip kissing. Animals don’t tend to bother either. So how did it evolve? When you think about it, kissing is strange and a bit icky. You share saliva with someone, sometimes for a prolonged period of time. One kiss could pass on 80 million bacteria, not all of them good. Yet everyone surely remembers their first kiss, in all its embarrassing or delightful detail, and kissing continues to play a big role in new romances. At least, it does in some societies. People in western societies may assume that romantic kissing is a universal human behavior, but a new analysis suggests that less than half of all cultures actually do it. Kissing is also extremely rare in the animal kingdom. So what’s really behind this odd behavior? If it is useful, why don’t all animals do it – and all humans too? It turns out that the very fact that most animals don’t kiss helps explain why some do. Kissing could be quite a recent invention.
According to a new study of kissing preferences, which looked at 168 cultures from around the world, only 46% of cultures kiss in the romantic sense. The study overturns the belief that romantic kissing is a near-universal human behavior. Previous estimates had put the figure at 90%. The new study excluded parents kissing their children, and focused solely on romantic lip-on-lip action between couples. Many hunter-gatherer groups showed no evidence of kissing or desire to do so. Some even considered it revolting. The Mehinaku tribe in Brazil reportedly said it was “gross”. Humans lived in hunter-gatherer groups for most of our existence, until the invention of farming around 10,000 years ago. If modern hunter-gatherer groups do not practice romantic kissing, it is possible that our ancestors did not do so either. However we cannot be certain of this, as modern hunter-gatherer groups do not live in the same ways as the ancestral hunter-gatherers, because their societies have changed and adapted in the meantime.1439545532e88a1d79Regardless, the study overturns the belief that romantic kissing is a near-universal human behavior, says lead author William Jankowiak of the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. Instead it seems to be a product of western societies, passed on from one generation to the next, he says. There is some to back that up. Kissing as we do it today seems to be a fairly recent invention, says Rafael Wlodarski of the University of Oxford in the UK. He has trawled through records to find evidence of how kissing has changed. Is kissing something we do naturally? The oldest evidence of a kissing-type behavior comes from Hindu Vedic Sanskrit texts from over 3,500 years ago. Kissing was described as inhaling each others soul. In contrast, Egyptian hieroglyphics picture people close to each other rather than pressing their lips together.
So what is going on? Is kissing something we do naturally, but that some cultures have suppressed? Or is it something modern humans have invented? We can find some insight by looking at animals. Our closest relatives, chimpanzees and bonobos, do kiss. Primatologist Frans de Waal of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, has seen many instances of chimps kissing and hugging after conflict. As far as we know, other animals do not kiss at all. For chimpanzees, kissing is a form of reconciliation. It is more common among males than females. In other words, it is not a romantic behavior. Their cousins the bonobos kiss more often, and they often use tongues while doing so. That’s perhaps not surprising, because bonobos are highly sexual beings. When two humans meet, we might shake hands. Bonobos have sex: the so-called bonobo handshake. They also use sex for many other kinds of bonding. So their kisses are not particularly romantic, either. These two apes are exceptions. As far as we know, other animals do not kiss at all. They may nuzzle or touch their faces together, but even those that have lips don’t share saliva or purse and smack their lips together. They don’t need to.jbhTake wild boars. Males produce a pungent smell that females find extremely attractive. The key chemical is a pheromone called androstenone that triggers the females’ desire to mate. Animals often release these pheromones in their urine. From a female’s point of view this is a good thing, because males with the most androstonene are also the most fertile. Her sense of smell is so acute, she doesn’t need to get close enough to kiss the male. The same is true of many other mammals. For example, female hamsters emit a pheromone that gets males very excited. Mice follow similar chemical traces to help them find partners that are genetically different, minimizing the risk of accidental incest. “If there’s urine present in the environment they can assess compatibility through that.” The point is, animals do not need to get close to each other to smell out a good potential mate.
On the other hand, humans have an atrocious sense of smell, so we benefit from getting close. Smell isn’t the only cue we use to assess each others fitness, but studies have shown that it plays an important role in mate choice. Men also make a version of the pheromone that female boars find attractive. A study published in 1995 showed that women, just like mice, prefer the smell of men who are genetically different from them. This makes sense, as mating with someone with different genes is likely to produce healthy offspring. Kissing is a great way to get close enough to sniff out your partner’s genes. In 2013, Wlodarski examined kissing preferences in detail. He asked several hundred people what was most important when kissing someone. How they smelled featured highly, and the importance of smell increased when women were most fertile. It turns out that men also make a version of the pheromone that female boars find attractive. It is present in male sweat, and when women are exposed to it their arousal levels increase slightly. Pheromones are a big part of how mammals chose a mate, says Wlodarski, and we share some of them. “We’ve inherited all of our biology from mammals, we’ve just added extra things through evolutionary time.” jhbkYou could let go of kissing and start smelling people instead. On that view, kissing is just a culturally acceptable way to get close enough to another person to detect their pheromones. In some cultures, this sniffing behavior turned into physical lip contact. It’s hard to pinpoint when this happened, but both serve the same purpose, says Wlodarski. You’ll find just as good a partner when you smell them, and you won’t get half as many germs. Be prepared for some funny looks, though.

New Paradigms for Leadership, Family Living & Community Building Emerge

posby Edith Boyer-Telmer

Dear Friends,
we are approaching a period in the development of human kind, where relationships are ready to go through a major transformation. Daily more people realize that the current paradigm of being with each other, does not really work for human beings and needs to be adapted to the time we are living in. The divine forces have blessed us with intense light impulses during the whole month of December last year. A part of the collective impact we experienced is the cleansing of the human energy field from the thinking and behavior pattern of the first chakra.
This upgrade in frequency in the physical body of all beings on the planet, has an impact on how we experience love relationships, sexuality, territorial behavior, family or tribal bounds, and leadership.

In the new paradigm for romantic relationships, we will see more and more people choose their partner rather from a sense of purpose, inner guidance and soul connection, than practical reasons or pure sexual attraction. And when people decide to be together because they can feel a mutual soul contract, than the relationship is allowed to naturally strive rather than “function”. When the beings involved in a relationship are also individually committed truth seeker, than the partnership becomes a journey of evolution with endless potential for growth. And as human beings we need the feeling of inner growth, otherwise we loose the sense for fulfilling our soul’s purpose. This shift of awareness to the soul level of our connections, lifts us to a place where cooperation and collaboration are experienced as equally shared in responsibility and created from a place of ease.pTogether with this changes a relaxation settles into the interactions between the sexes, which leads us to more authentic and truthful communication. In the partners loving presence, we train to reveal our secrets in a profound emotional openness and a transformed feeling of solidarity. Within the new relationship paradigm, we also will see more couples who value growth more than anything else. And the ones who are wise, strive towards spiritual expansion, even at the risk of outgrowing the relationship within the process. That might be scary in times, but it also maintains a natural feeling of aliveness, freedom and loving energy-flow between the relationship partners.
Within the new paradigm for community living , clan members meet by soul calling, for the mutual reason of consciously supporting each others evolution process (and often as well the collective awakening). Everybody is committed to allow authentic expression, even if that means to be triggered in their beliefs systems. As we start building this conscious communities according to the divine blueprint for the Golden Age of Aquarius, we will see more and more guideline models arise, that include techniques from our ancestors in their toolbox.
From the talking circle to the conflict solving group meeting, from the healing tent to the transformation ritual, everyone is celebrating a comeback!! In growing groups of cultural expressions, like the so called “New Hippie Movement”, we can see the first alive models at work. And as our current society is a product of human concepts, not of divine will in this moment of time, it is on us to make all necessary steps for this alignments now. When the groups sharing also include the spiritual practices of total acceptance, being present with another, instant forgiveness and a commitment for allowing vulnerability, their communities will have the vibrations and feeling of a Sacred Space. A home where every member feels safe, welcome and appreciated to SIMPLE BE.po

And leadership, well that is shifting in peoples heads as well. When I was a child, impressive people in leading positions, pretty much scared the living daylight out of me. They where simple unapproachable!!  No warm feelings, no openness, there was nothing that mad me feel safe within the energy field they where radiating. Well, the natural born leader our collective awakening is now inviting to step up, will be human beings with the soul capacity to do a better job. A leader the awakening masses will identify as real now, is a being who naturally knows how to put the ego aside and truly care for others. Their communication skills will include the awareness, transparency and honesty, that are required to create an authentic relationship with others. Traits we should demand from our future authority figures like Politicians, Teacher, Doctors and Police officer!
A true leader also has to be able to co-operate and create with others on an energetically honest level, and with the focus on a win win situation. Doing so allows them to develop the ability to let others shine, without feeling threatened or attacked by their abilities. Anad a natural leader knows when to step in and give the collective a direction, and when to step back and let others do their part.

Dear Ones, i hope this little collection of insides has brought joy to your heart about the expected changes, maybe vibrated with some of the desires you are also caring in your soul, and invited you to even more spiritual growth in this magical year 2016. May the guidance of your higher-self sound loud and clear in your ear ;-), and lead you to the fulfillment of all of your hopes and dreams for community living, love relations and future leadership, that we actually can trust! I wish you inner peace and send blessings of love!

The Ten Attributes of Shamanism

schotDear Friends,
I am just so lucky and blessed how the world works for me, i have to all the time share – in order not to burst ;-)!! After my last two posts about how a shaman works with the blessings of the physical body as divine temple of growing consciousness, and the “10 signs you are called to be a Western Shaman“, there have been a few comments that this ideas could be understood as racist or offensive to indigenous shamans. So lucky as I am, the minute I read the comments, I also pumped into this wonderful article. It describes perfectly how shamanic practices have not only been used for thousands of years all over the world, and therefor are not at all region or culture specific or limited, but also does it shows that shamanic working people all over the world – show the same attributes. I hope you enjoy her piece as much as I did!!
Blessings and Good Guidance on your Path!!
Edith

Article by Jone Forest Mage:
As a contemporary shaman living in the urban setting of Chicago, people often ask me, “What is shamanism?” and “How is shamanism different from other forms of meditation and energy work such as Reiki, chi gong, prayer or creative visualization?” Shamanism is an ancient form of spiritual healing that has been practiced by virtually every culture in the world throughout all of human history. Some people think of it as the origin of all other forms of spiritual expression and energy work. Your image of shamanism may be of indigenous peoples drumming, singing and dancing in rituals to create healing. There are cave paintings in Europe created 40,000 years ago which depict shamanic-style healing rituals, and it’s likely that shamanic practices are even older than that. Many people think shamanism is exclusively a Native American tradition, but it is actually found all over the world. In fact, the word shaman comes from the Tungus tribe of Siberia. Shamanic practices are well known in India, Korea, Africa, Britain, and Australia, among many other places. Both men and women throughout the ages have been shamans. Shamanic healing works on the principle of restoring the vital energy, or soul.
The classic example is when an individual has lost parts of his or her soul due to traumatic events in life such as accidents, major illness, physical, sexual or emotional abuse or the loss of a loved one. To remedy this, the shamanic practitioner performs a soul retrieval healing, by doing a shamanic “journey” meditation to find and return lost parts of the client’s energy (“soul parts”). However, shamanic healing is not limited to soul retrieval, or only to the healing of the individual person. It also includes mending the broken ties of community on every level: within human society, with nature and with the spirit realm. This may mean restoring the connection an individual has to her body; encouraging a dialogue among the various soul parts within an individual; introducing a person to his spirit guides; connecting a client to the more-than-human matrix of nature; or helping a person find her expressive “voice” through singing and dancing. Shamanism shares many traits with other forms of prayer and energy work, but we can identify ten characteristic ways of working in shamanism. Not every shaman works with all of them, but the more of the ten you see in a practitioner’s work, the more that practitioner is shamanic in his or her approach. 5The Ten Attributes are:
1.) Works with spirit realm and spirit guides – Shamanism deals with going into altered states of consciousness to find healing and wisdom. In this altered state, we perceive all existence as being a big energetic field. The world is filled with spiritual beings and energies: angels, ancestors, totem, animals, gods, goddesses, nature spirits. These helpful spirits guide us to healing and wisdom.

2.) Heals through shifting energy – As contemporary shaman Bradford Keeney says, “Shamanism has nothing to do with how many beads someone has on a costume. The goal of the shamanic practitioner is to shift energy.” Healing is accomplished through returning energy that has been lost or unblocking the flow of energy, which may happen through direct energetic healing or through gaining information.

3.) Solves problems in daily life – shamanic work is not about simply having visions of the spirit realm, but to help self and others gain healing and wisdom in our daily lives. We work in concert with the spirits to improve the whole Web of Life.

4.) Travel out of body to the 3 Worlds– shamanic work involves “journeying” out of body into the spirit realm to work with the spirit guides for healing and guidance. Journeying is done to three different Worlds or planes of existence: the Upperworld, Middleworld and Lowerworld. The typical vision is to go through a tunnel, come into a place of nature (Journey Center) where you meet your team of spirit guides to ask for healing or information.

5.) Empowers the soul – shamanism heals and empowers the soul, which is the vital essence or unique individual Self. Through healing and restoring this spiritual power, many physical, mental and emotional issues are resolved. Soul is in between ego and spirit. Ego is the surface and limited sense of self, while spirit is the Great Cosmic “Soup” of all energy that encompasses all that is. Soul is what you came to this lifetime to accomplish: all the talents and the mission you were born with to contribute to the world.
23a6.) Heals the Web of Life – shamanic healing is not only about healing the individual, but equally includes healing human society, the spirit realm and nature: the whole Cosmic Web of Life. Some shamans work almost exclusively healing nature, or with the spirit realm.

7.) Grounded in nature – the shamanic practitioner gratefully utilizes the powers of nature for healing, transformation and restoration of energy and to stay grounded in the physical plane.

8.) Grounded in the body– shamanic work is not just about having mental visions nor does it try to transcend the body. It addresses feelings and intuitions from within the body and heals what psychologists would call psychosomatic issues.

9.) Grounded in expressive arts – shamans throughout the ages have used singing, dancing, drumming, storytelling and visual art as ways of shifting energy, expressing their visions and creating healing. The healing that shamans perform encompasses the work done in such modern healing modalities as movement therapy, sound healing, psychodrama and color therapy.

10.) Face shadow side – shamanic healing often confronts the “shadow side”, drawing out the full range of energies and emotions including anger, sadness and fear to create cathartic healing.

Family Tribes in The Golden Age of Aquarius

tribWhen the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow
Old Native American Prophecy

by Edith Boyer-Telmer

Dear Friends,
the other day we talked about Soul Mates and Soul Families, about our collective shift to higher vibration and the healing of our Family Tree. For many of us the past few days of the New Moon energy influence, have been a call to let go of the ties to our family pattern, and set ourselves free for the creation of the family tribes of our soul. And again it will be the Indigo Children, Crystal Children and Highly Empathic People, who hear this call into the Golden Age of Humanity first, and lead us the way.
Since years I watch an increasing amount of young and incredible talented people in their habit of traveling the world as tribes. Most of them are Indigo and Crystal Children, expressing with this new type of “Hippy Movement” our collective desire to find the family of our soul and live with them according to our core values. All of us carry in our souls the knowledge, that a more beautiful world is possible. A memory of our true origin is encoded in our DNA, until one day it is awakened and our desire starts guiding the way. Just by existing as a multiracial, multinational family, this young people demonstrated their belief in the possibility of equality and peace on earth.
And many of this high vibrating beings truly have a contract with other souls to unite as one family of the heart, and play an active role in the transformation of humanity into The Golden Age of Humanity – the time we are in now. This agreements exist in the super-conscious of large soul-groups, the awareness of smaller collectives and between individuals. The people of this Soul Families will choose to come together despite their differences in service to humanity, in order to support the spiritual enlightenment and evolution of the collective human race. They will come together to consolidate the total knowledge of humanity as one, bring back together that which was split and live a life based on unity consciousness, indigenous wisdom from all parts of the planet and planetary sustainability. Knowledge will be shared freely, the divine feminine and the divine masculine will co-exist in equality and co-operation.
Another development for our near future is, that people will recognize a leader no longer as the one that talks the loudest, boasts of successes, or has the support of the elite. Leaders will be those whose actions speak the loudest, the ones that have shown wisdom, compassion, kindness and courage in challenging situations, and have proven that they work for the benefit of all beings. And this are qualities a lot of Indigo and Crystals naturally feel a need to develop, express and share with the world.33Many prophesies have spoken of this time and the children of all colors and regions of the world, that will help unite humanity in their ONENESS of HEART. The following I especially enjoy:

“When the Time of the White Buffalo approaches, the third generation of the White Eyes’ children will grow their hair and speak of love as the healer of the Children of the Earth. These children will seek new ways of understanding themselves and others. They will wear feathers and beads and paint their faces. They will seek the Elders of the Red Race and drink of their wisdom. These white-eyed children will be a sign that the Ancestors are returning in white bodies, but they are Red on the inside. They will learn to walk the Earth Mother in balance again and  reform the idea of the white chiefs.   — Navajo / Hopi Prophecy of the Whirling Rainbow

There will come a day when people of all races, colors, and creeds will put aside their differences. They will come together in love, joining hands in unification, to heal the Earth and all Her children. They will move over the Earth like a great Whirling Rainbow, bringing peace, understanding and healing everywhere they go. Many creatures thought to be extinct or mythical will resurface at this time; the great trees that perished will return almost overnight. All living things will flourish, drawing sustenance from the breast of our Mother, the Earth.
The great spiritual Teachers who walked the Earth and taught the basics of the truths of the Whirling Rainbow Prophecy will return and walk among us once more, sharing their power and understanding with all. We will learn how to see and hear in a sacred manner. Men and women will be equals in the way Creator intended them to be; all children will be safe anywhere they want to go. Elders will be respected and valued for their contributions to life. Their wisdom will be sought out. The whole Human race will be called ‘The People’ and there will be no more war, sickness or hunger forever.”  — Navajo / Hopi Prophecy
lmSo if you hear the call to be part of a family you might not even know jet, start listening to the little things your subconscious is whispering to you. Pay attention to your authentic core values and the ways how you need to be treated in order to feel safe and home with people. Don’t rush it, just hold the awareness in your heart, that there are others in this world with skills, attributes and soul desire – that match yours perfectly.

I hope this information helps you to be patient and hold your horses until the family of your heart and soul arrives in your life, to manifest the parts of the Golden Age of Aquarius – you are collectively dreaming of. Keep breathing deeply and keep walking in divine faith until the divine plan is beautifully unfolding in front of our eyes!
Blessings an Faithful Patients! Edith

New Relationships Are Emerging – In Friendship With A Tree!!

jby Edith Boyer-Telmer

Dear Friends,
last week I talked about the amazing ability human beings have to connect and be in relationship with other dimensional realms. One of this realms is the Kingdom of Nature, the weeds, flowers, bushes and trees surrounding us. The conscious interaction between the Nature Kingdom and the human race, is as old as human life itself! Our pagan ancestors worshiped trees. In many traditions in Europe, trees are admired for their magical, healing and grounding powers.

It is known, that Plato and Aristotle received their deepest insights in the olive groves around Athens. Buddha found enlightenment beneath a bo tree, and Isaac Newton realized his “gravity theory” while watching an apple fall from the tree, under which he was sitting.
Confidence comes with practice!!mHere is a short list of trees that are especially important for the human race, at this very important point of our collective evolution!

The excess to new dimensions from the BIRCH TREE:
Birch trees support us in our forgiveness process and awaken the energy of new beginnings inside of us. It helps us cleans from the impact of our past.

On our path of illumination, it provides the needed spiritual influence to reach a higher state of consciousness.bodhitreegalleryPower for your prayers from the BEECH TREE:

Olive trees support our physical self-healing abilities and spiritual growth.

I wish you nurturing, healing experiences when you are getting in touch with your higher sensory abilities and the frequencies of the tree spirits!!! Note: The strongest connection can be achieved with the joyful, relaxed and lighthearted approach of a child!!!
Have fun playing with our brothers and sisters from the Nature realm!
Blessings and Oneness-feelings!!

9 Animal Species That Use Psychoactive Substances In The Wild

1524815_185511901649386_324707819_nDear Friends,
from day to day now, we are tapping deeper into the awareness of our shared reality with the Animal Kingdom. More and more people receive messages by the other world, transported by animal spirits. Reading this article I can’t help but ask myself if this facts might not be helpful for the human race, when we harmonize our energy field with the Animal Kingdom.
Many of the below mentioned animals are well known helper for us, in indigenous traditions identified as Power animals. I like to think, that the Dolphin in it’s  “trance-like state” is able to tap into the energetic field of humanity to charge us with the amazing qualities their lives represent to us. Same for the Jaguars – who are royal animals to many cultures, the Horse – part of Native American inheritance, the Reindeer the same
for the Nordic countries and Pics  , part of cultural believes worldwide.
So couldn’t it be possible that animals in altered states of awareness also use the same highways of information than humans do and therefor are channeling their characteristics, love and support to us, when consuming psychoactive substances!?? What Do you think? Anybody who can share such an experience?

Wishing you loving and nurturing connections with the animal world!!
Edith

For millennia, our ancestors have enjoyed, and even regarded as sacred, a variety of mind-altering substances. Cultural artifacts, visionary artwork and rituals in many indigenous cultures and past civilizations point to this fact. As Ethan Nadelmann remarked in a recent TED talk, “Our desire to alter our consciousness may be as fundamental as our desires for food, companionship, and sex.”

While Homo sapien consumption for consciousness-expanding purposes is well-documented throughout anthropology and history, ample evidence suggests we are not the only creatures who seek mind-altering plants and substances in their environment.
Indeed, plenty of our animal friends enjoy mind-altering substances: Some eat fermented fruits, psychoactive mushrooms, and opium poppies. Others rub themselves with crushed ants or angry millipedes.
The initial attraction to these substances might not be just to get high, but for nutritional or protective purposes. For example, fermenting fruits might be attractive to certain species because the process signifies the fruit is at its highest caloric value, and is also going to rot soon. In other cases, naturally occurring intoxicants might serve some curative function or contain nutrients that are otherwise scarce in the environment.
But, there’s compelling evidence to suggest that altering one’s state of mind for the simple purposes of experiencing that altered state is a natural drive common to many inhabitants of the animal kingdom. See for yourself.

1. Lemurs and capuchin monkeys get high off of millipedes.

The idea that some animals get high off other animals is an intriguing one, and lemurs and capuchin monkeys seem to be doing just this with poisonous millipedes. The millipedes store toxic chemicals, including cyanide, which they release in defense when provoked. The primates pick up and agitate millipedes and then rub them all over their bodies, coating themselves in the defensive secretions — here’s a BBC documentary clip on this. As mentioned in the video, the primary reason for this seem to be protection against a variety of parasites, but the monkeys and lemurs also seem to enjoy a thoroughly blissful intoxication as a result. The monkeys, being more social animals, have been seen passing a millipede around, reminiscent of a group of people passing around a joint.

images (1)2. Dolphins enjoy the psychoactive effects of poisonous pufferfish.

Similar to the lemurs and monkeys above, dolphins have been observed hanging out in groups of four to seven, passing around an angry pufferfish. The pufferfish releases an extremely potent poison called tetrodotoxin which is more deadly than nerve gas or the venom of the black widow spider, and thus is one of the most toxic compounds known to man. Evolutionary biologist Dr. Christie Wilcox is skeptical of the theory that dolphins are intentionally doing this for the purpose of intoxication and pleasure, but there is some compelling evidence to the contrary. For example, the BBC documentary Spy in the Pod showed dolphins passing around a pufferfish and then floating near the surface of the water, apparently in a “trance-like state.”

3. Many species of birds do what is called “anting.”

A seemingly odd behavior, ravens, myna birds, jays, magpies, and other birds sometimes either rub themselves with ants or get intimate with anthills to coat themselves in ants (see a jay do it here). This is called anting, and its purpose remains unclear.
An article published in the journal of the American Ornithologist’s Union in 1974 reviewed the possible explanations for anting. One theory is that the birds are coating themselves with the ant’s defensive chemical secretions, thus applying a protective coating much like when we apply insect repellent.
Another possibility is that the secretions serve to soothe the bird’s body during molting season. Others point to the curious movement sometimes observed during anting (described by one ecologist as “a curious dance that involved flopping around on the grass with its wings outstretched and its beak open”) as proof of an intoxicated state, suggesting that anting is pleasurable for the birds.
Perhaps the answer is a combination of these theories. Similar to how humans use cannabis, anting may at times serve a protective or curative purpose, while at other times be done mainly for the enjoyment of the altered state it brings about.

4. Many animals seek out fermented fruits in the wild.

It has been widely reported that elephants get themselves drunk from the marula tree’s fermented fruit. Anecdotal reports of these stumbling elephants go back over a century, and the phenomenon was portrayed in the film Animals are Beautiful People by James Uys (Uys also made The Gods Must Be Crazy). The idea is that the fallen fruit ferments either on the ground before being eaten, or in the elephant’s digestive system, yielding one drunk pachyderm.
As fun as it is to think about inebriated elephants, this theory has been debunked by an article published in the Physiological and Biochemical Zoology journal in 2006, and it’s been suggested that the clips shown in the above video were staged by artificially sedating the elephants. For starters, elephants don’t eat the rotten fruit from the ground, instead preferring to ram the tree trunk to shake loose the ripe fruit, even when there’s fruit on the ground available. Another hypothesis, which suggests that the fruit ferments in the digestive system, is also out of the question; the fruits are not in the digestive system long enough for that to happen, and the sugars needed for fermentation are metabolized by the elephant before they can be converted to alcohol by yeast. And, in order to get drunk an elephant would need to eat 1,400 fully fermented marula fruits — an unlikely feat. Despite its improbability, the myth, and convincing videos of seemingly drunk elephants, persist.

images (2)However, there have been confirmed reports of other animals that regularly consume fermented fruit. The pen-tailed treeshrew, native to Thailand and Malaysia, is known to regularly snack on the nectar of the bertam palm tree, sharing this indulgence with the slow loris and several other mammals native to that area, according to a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science in 2008. The palm’s flower bud houses a species of yeast that ferments the nectar, bringing it to a beer-like alcohol content of up to 3.8%. It is estimated that, in one night, the treeshrew can consume the equivalent of nine alcoholic beverages. However, they show no overt signs of intoxication because their bodies use more efficient ways of breaking down alcohol than we do, preventing the accumulation of alcohol necessary for getting drunk. Similarly, bats regularly encounter and consume fermented fruits in the wild. Like the treeshrew, they show no signs of intoxication. When scientists gave bats an alcohol solution and made them fly an obstacle course, they performed no worse than their sober counterparts.

Monkeys also have a taste for alcohol — not only do they seek out fermented fruits, but they also like to steal alcoholic drinks from tourists. And their taste for alcohol has allowed for some pretty interesting research on their drinking habits. Vervet monkeys that were given access to alcohol in a social setting show some striking parallels to the drinking patterns of humans.
The monkeys could be grouped into social drinkers, which prefer sweetened drinks and only drink in the company of others; regular drinkers, which prefer their drinks straight, make good leaders, and are socially dominant; binge drinkers, which are aggressive and can drink themselves to death within months if given unrestricted access to alcohol; and abstainers. What’s more, not only the types of drinkers similar to humans, but the proportions of each of these behavior patterns in the monkeys studied reflects those found in human populations. These findings raise the possibility that our patterns of drug consumption are more fundamental aspects of our animal nature than we might think.

wacky-horse-570x3675. Horses seek out locoweed for its intoxicating effects.

Locoweed refers to any plant that produces the chemical swainsonine. It is thought that horses are initially attracted to these plants because they remain green longer than other plants once winter comes around. However, they begin to seek it out for its intoxicating effects, increasing their use over time. Farmers do their best to eliminate locoweed from their properties, as its frequent consumption is damaging to the animal’s health. A study published in the Journal of Animal Science in 2003 found that horses that ate the weed for two weeks developed significant weight loss and signs of depression. Swainsonine interferes with a metabolic enzyme, resulting in the buildup of the simple sugar mannose in neural cells. If severe, this buildup can lead to heart problems, reproductive difficulties, and neurological damage to the horses.

6. Jaguars eat the ayahuasca vine.

According to this Discovery article, humans aren’t the only ones that use Banisteriopsis caapi (one of the two plants used to make ayahuasca) as a psychoactive. This Amazonian jungle vine contains several compounds called beta-carbolines that potentiate the DMT in the ayahuasca brew by inhibiting bodily enzymes that would otherwise be responsible for breaking down the DMT. It turns out that jaguars also seek out the leaves of this jungle vine.
Higher doses of harmala alkaloids often result in vomiting and diarrhea characteristic of ayahuasca, so one possibility is that they consume the vine to purge the intestinal tract of possible parasites; a study of the Amazonian Piaroa tribe published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs suggests that eating the leaves grants the jaguar heightened sensory perception, helping them hunt. However, the jaguars are also known to roll around in ecstasy after consuming the vine, suggesting to some that its use is primarily for pleasure. See it for yourself here.

images7. Reindeer eat the psychoactive Amanita muscaria mushrooms.

These red-and-white psychedelic mushrooms, native to temperate and boreal regions in the Northern Hemisphere and thought to be the sacrament referred to as Soma in one of Hinduism’s foundational texts, are also a favorite snack of reindeer. As Gordon Wasson relates in his book Soma: Divine Mushroom of Immortality, reindeer are reported to prance about after eating the fungi — which are commonly referred to as “fly agaric” — apparently reveling in their intoxicated state. Reindeer are also an integral part of the history of Amanita use by indigenous peoples of Northern Europe and Siberia. As Reset.me recently reported, a 2009 BBC video explains how the Sami people indigenous to the Arctic Circle have long used fly agaric mushrooms in their visionary rituals. It is theorized that the connection between reindeer, Sami and fly agaric mushrooms is the basis for the legend of Santa’s flying reindeer.

Not only did these people herd reindeer, the animal being their main source of food and clothing, but they also got high with a little help from their reindeer friends. The effects of Amanita muscaria are characterized by a certain unpredictability, as their ingestion can bring about a range of thoroughly unpleasant side-effects and physical symptoms. In time, it was discovered that muscimol, the active compound of the mushrooms, is not processed by the body but is instead flushed out through urination while the more toxic compounds responsible for the body load are broken down. This led to the practice in some places of drinking the psychoactive urine of the shaman who had eaten, and thus purified, the mushroom. Some shamans even drank the urine of reindeer that had eaten the mushrooms. It turns out that the reindeer, intelligent in their own right, also realized that they could get high from the urine of a human that had consumed the mushroom, leading to what Cracked humorously referred to as “The Circle of Piss.”

8. Wallabies ravage opium poppy fields.

Tasmania is a leading producer of opium poppies for the pharmaceutical industry, supplying the morphine necessary for the production of painkillers. There’s only one problem: wallabies love the poppies. They’ll raid a field, gorge themselves on poppies, and crush the plantations in the process. As reported by BBC in 2009, the issue of stoned wallabies was even discussed at a parliamentary hearing on the security of opium crops in Tasmania, with the country’s attorney general stating that wallabies were “entering poppy fields, getting high as a kite, and going around in circles.”

download9. Pigs dig up truffles containing cannabinoids.

Black truffles, a gourmet delicacy for us humans, are also a sought-after snack for pigs. These mushrooms grow exclusively below ground and are identified by pigs by their aroma, said to be reminiscent of wet earth, dried fruit, and cacao.  A recent article in the journal Phytochemistry revealed that the black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) contains the cannabinoid anandamide, a compound structurally related to THC that is also found endogenously in the human body and is a key component of the body’s endocannabinoid system. Anandamide derives its name from the Sanskrit word ananda, meaning “bliss.” Researchers suggest that the anandamide in black truffles might be “an ancient attractant to truffle eaters that are well-equipped with with endocannabinoid receptors,” indirectly suggesting that humans might be drawn to truffles for the same reason.

Unleashing Wild Women and the Sacred Feminine to Transform the World

1170232902874652992LrjxaDVc
Dear Friends,
in these exciting and ever changing time of our our collective transformation into manifesting the Golden Age of Aquarius, we hear a lot about the incoming high energies of cosmic light, of the Venus retrograde phase and the coming Super Moon. But it is not only the heavenly forces, that are once again opening their doors for us. The divine law states: “As above – so below”. What that means is, when ever the gateways of heaven open to bless us with supportive energy frequencies, so does Planet Earth. Last week, the physical ground we are standing on has, for the fist time in human existence, reached the stable vibration of a 5th dimensional living being. Without the body there is no divinity in action, no imprint of the divine in this world, no space for expression of an individual divine soul path. So celebrate your physical vessel, celebrate the nature of being a human being (the awakening of the divine feminine is needed for both, men and women!!), celebrate the beauty of our planet and let it heal you back home to where it all began!!
Love and Blessings! Namaste!
Edith

By

We live during a time of awakening consciousness, a time in which we are exploring ways to bring the Sacred Feminine to a more central focus in our lives, in order to stop the wars, bring compassion to all, and nurture our Earth Mother who gives us everything we need.
In a time of great change such as we live in today, it is critical, perhaps even a life-or-death matter, to explore the idea of women connecting with their deepest inner knowing and powerful creative energy to find their passion and transform the world.

Women in Indigenous Cultures

In many indigenous cultures around the world, from the Australian Aboriginal peoples to the indigenous peoples of North and South America, woman are considered sacred because they maintain a close connection to nature; to birth, life, and death; to medicinal plants; and to spiritual knowledge.
In these ancient cultures, the Sacred Feminine is encouraged to shine forth alongside the Sacred Masculine. Both the feminine and the masculine aspects of humanity bring important wisdom and abilities to the community as a whole. The two types of energies combine within each individual to create a life-affirming balance.
Too often in modern society, the masculine qualities are valued over the feminine, creating an imbalance driven by insecurities and deep fear. When we open up to the Sacred Feminine in our lives, we restore that balance, we find confidence and integrity, and we develop the courage to move past our fears.

In The Sacred Hoop: Recovering the Feminine in American Indian Traditions, Paula Gunn Allen writes:

“Traditional tribal lifestyles are more often gynocratic than not, and they are never patriarchal … In tribal gynocratic systems a multitude of personality and character types can function positively within the social order because the systems are focused on social responsibility rather than privilege. They feature even distribution of goods among all members of the society on the grounds that First Mother enjoined cooperation and sharing on all her children. The welfare of the young is paramount, the complementary nature of all life forms is stressed, and the centrality of powerful women to social well-being is unquestioned.”

It is only natural then, that at this important time of re-evaluating humans’ impact on the planet over the past 500 years or so, that we should return to a consideration of allowing women to step forward with their nurturing, strong-willed, and wild natures ready to make great social change. It also makes sense that we would look to the Sacred Feminine found in so many indigenous cultures, whose wisdom can help us discover new ways to respect the Earth and to honor its abundance.

3A Wild Nature Buried Within

When a woman, or any person for that matter, is in touch with their deepest inner knowing, when they can hear their “soul-voice,” they feel a deep connection with the universe. They are able to follow their intuition without doubting and second-guessing themselves.
Too often in modern culture, our intuition is drowned out by to-do lists and schedules, money problems, and worries about what other people will think about us. The list of distractions goes on and on. The Wild Woman is able to let go of all of these small concerns in order to nourish what is most important for her soul: The pull of her heart toward what she really loves and what she is meant to do in the world.
Every person, in order to be whole and complete, needs to offer their truest self to the world. We all have something very special and unique to share. We need every single person on the Earth to feel free to share their gift, in order to accomplish the huge task of creating the just, sustainable world that we want to see.
We must each start within. We can begin by discovering and releasing what is wild within each of us, allowing it to open and blossom in our lives. Once we find the voice inside, the same voice that guided our indigenous ancestors to medicinal wisdom and spiritual knowledge, then we are in touch with the Sacred Feminine, the connection to birth, life, and death that guides each of us. When we allow this voice to become stronger, when we truly listen to it and acknowledge it, we will understand what our gift is and how to share it in the world.

In her book Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. writes of the feminine nature:

“It’s not by accident that the pristine wilderness of our planet disappears as the understanding of our own inner wild nature fades. It is not so difficult to comprehend why old forests and old women are viewed as not very important resources. It is not such a mystery.”

What Happens When Women Open to their Deepest Wild Nature?

Estes says: “When women reassert their relationship with the wildish nature, they are gifted with a permanent and internal watcher, a knower, a visionary, an oracle, an inspiratrice, an intuitive, a maker, a creator, an inventor, and a listener who guide, suggest, and urge vibrant life in the inner and outer worlds. When women are close to this nature, the fact of that relationship glows through them. This wild teacher, wild mother, wild mentor supports their inner and outer lives, no matter what.

“So the word wild here is not used in its modern sense, meaning out of control, but in its original sense, which means to live a natural life.

“With [our true nature] as ally, as leader, model, teacher, we see, not through two eyes, but through the eyes of intuition which is many-eyed. When we assert intuition, we are therefore like the starry night: we gaze at the world through a thousand eyes.

“The wild woman carries the bundles for healing; she carries everything a woman needs to be and to know … As in all art, she resides in the guts, not in the head … She whispers from night dreams, she leaves behind on the terrain of a woman’s soul a coarse hair and muddy footprints … She is the voice which says, ‘This way, this way.” … She is from the future and from the beginning of time.”

32Who Is the Wild Woman Today?

The Wild Woman is one who is not afraid to reject society’s rules in order to make great change which she knows is important and necessary. Her intuition is clear and strong, and she uses it to guide her actions and strengthen her resolve. She is fiercely protective of her own children and grandchildren, her partner, her community, all sentient beings, and Mother Earth.

“No matter by which culture a woman is influenced, she understands the words wild and woman, intuitively. When women hear those words, an old, old memory is stirred and brought back to life … When we pick up her trail, it is typical of women to ride hard to catch up, to clear off the desk, clear off the relationship, clear out one’s mind, turn to a new page, insist on a break, break the rules, stop the world, for we are not going on without her any longer.”

In other words, Wild Women have rediscovered a connection with their heart and their deepest instincts, which may have been lost for years or decades. They will passionately reinvent their own lives and their world when they discover their wildish nature.
Many of the world’s great social change leaders, progressive thinkers, and tireless activists are Wild Women. Think of Julia Butterfly Hill, Rosa Parks, Margaret Fuller, Mother Theresa, and Waangari Maathai. These woman stepped outside of the normal boundaries of the society of their time, defying all odds and proceeding with what they believed in no matter what obstacles they faced.
As social movements rise during this time of expanding human consciousness, who will be the next Wild Women who will change history? Many of the newest generation of Wild Women are already beginning to ignite the world with new perspectives and an unyielding drive toward transformation. Are you one of them?

People and Trees: Intimately Connected Through the Ages

Trees are considered sacred in many cultures. Tree worship, in one form or another, has been practiced almost universally by ancient peoples in every corner of the globe.Tree of LifeFeatured Image: Tree of Life by Judith Shaw

Trees Speak to the Soul of Human Beings

It is no wonder that trees have captured the human imagination since the beginning of time. Their strength, deeply rooted in the Earth, is an inspiration. Their trunk and branches are a wonder of nature because they stand sturdy and impenetrable most of the time, yet they can flex and sway with the wind when needed.
The whisper of a breeze in their leaves or the sight of ants marching in a straight line up or down their trunks remind us of the magic of nature that trees embody. They live for hundreds or even thousands of years, and so we revere them as keepers of past secrets and sentinels of the future.
Watching their cycles of growth, shedding of leaves, and re-flowering in the spring, people have long perceived trees as powerful symbols of life, death, and renewal. Since the beginning of time, humans have had a sense that trees are sentient beings just like us, that they can feel pain, that they bleed when they are hurt. Trees even look like us. People have a trunk; trees have arms. And so we innately feel a deep connection to them.
Many people say they can feel a tree’s vibrational energy when placing their hand upon its bark. With their deep roots, trees carry significant grounding energy. We naturally feel peace and serenity when walking in the shade of trees or on a forest trail.

Trees Help Us Every Day

A recent study shows that trees remove so much pollution from the air that they “prevented 850 human deaths and 670,000 cases of acute respiratory symptoms in 2010 alone.” When an insect called the emerald ash borer killed off a significant number of trees in the American Midwest in the 1990’s and 2000’s, rates of human death from cardiovascular and respiratory illness increased.
More difficult to quantify is the psychological effect that trees have on people. People who spend time outdoors, or even those who have access to windows looking out at trees, have been shown to have better health than those who do not.

The Universal Tree of Life: Both Ancient and Modern

The concept of a Tree of Life, often symbolizing the connections between all life forms, is found in many religions and philosophies, dating back as early as ancient Egypt. The Egyptian tree of life symbolized creation and represented the chain of events that brought everything into existence.
Fast forward to modern science. The tree has become the quintessential symbol of biological evolution, as its ever-branching image poignantly depicts the unmistakable interconnections between all living species on the Earth.
The beautiful Tree of Life painting at the top of the article was shared with us by artist Judith Shaw. It was inspired by the ancient symbol of the Tree of Life as well as by Sacred Geometry.

91The Tree Leaf and Eternal Life

Consider this beautiful commentary from Thich Nhat Hanh reflecting on a tree leaf:

“I asked the leaf whether it was frightened because it was autumn and the other leaves were falling. The leaf told me, “No. During the whole spring and summer I was completely alive. I worked hard to help nourish the tree, and now much of me is in the tree. I am not limited by this form. I am also the whole tree, and when I go back to the soil, I will continue to nourish the tree. So I don’t worry at all. As I leave this branch and float to the ground, I will wave to the tree and tell her, ‘I will see you again very soon.’

… That day there was a wind blowing and, after a while, I saw the leaf leave the branch and float down to the soil, dancing joyfully, because as it floated it saw itself already there in the tree. It was so happy. I bowed my head, knowing that I have a lot to learn from the leaf because it is not afraid-it knew nothing can be born and nothing can die.”

thay-2013Cultural Beliefs About Trees

Trees are considered sacred in virtually every place where humans have settled.
There are many profound beliefs surrounding trees that people have held for millennia.
Here are some interesting and touching examples:

  • For the Sng’oi people of Malaysia, a person and a tree can belong with each other, and this relationship is maintained for life. Certain trees and certain people belong together. When a person belongs with a tree, they also belong with its offspring: any trees that grow from the seeds of the first tree, no matter how far the seeds may scatter. The Sng’oi people call upon their intuition to know which child trees have sprung from which parent trees.
  • The World Tree is said to dwell in three worlds: Its roots reach down to the underworld, its trunk sits on the Earth, and its branches extend up to the heavens. Many cultures share a belief that this tree is the Axis Mundi or World Axis which supports or holds up the cosmos. For the Mayan peoples, the Axis Mundi was a massive Ceiba (in other cultures, it is called Kapok) tree that stands at the center of the world. The Mayan beliefs reflect that human souls first came into being as the sacred white flowers on the branches of the Ceiba tree. Souls of the dead Mayan ancestors rose from the roots of the Axis Mundi up through its branches and into the celestial realms.
  • In Germanic regions, it was believed that mankind was created from tree trunks, echoing the perception that people and trees have much in common.
  • In Sweden, some trees were considered “wardens” and could guard a home from bad luck. The warden was usually a very old tree growing on the lot near the home. The family living there had such great respect for the tree that they would often adopt a surname related to the name of the tree.
  • yggdrasil_by_seless-d4caiaxA well-known sacred tree in Norse mythology was Yggdrasil, a giant ash tree that was said to link and shelter the nine worlds that were believed to exist.
  • In Irish and English folklore, fairies would be found wherever Ash, Oak, and Hawthorne trees grew together. Hawthorn trees were regarded as a powerful symbol of protection, and were often planted near houses to ward off lightning as well as evil spirits. On the dawn of Beltane, it was believed that women who bathed in the dew from a Hawthorne blossom would become beautiful, and men who washed their hands in the dew would become skilled craftsmen.
  • Buddhists have a deep reverence for the Bodhi tree, a type of fig tree with heart-shaped leaves, beneath which the Buddha is said to have meditated for 49 days, trying to reconcile his mind to the fact that there was suffering in the world. On the 49th day, he stood and thanked the tree for providing shade for him, and in that instant he attained enlightenment. Today, in the same location where the Buddha is believed to have sat, there grows a descendant of that same Bodhi tree. Buddhist myths say that the tree will live there until the world is destroyed, and the place where it grows will be the last place to be destroyed; and when the world is reborn, that site will be the first place to appear.
  • The villagers of Piplantri, in Rajasthan, India, celebrate the birth of each little girl by planting 111 trees in her honor. The entire village works together to plant and care for the trees. This tradition not only ensures that the environment will be able to support the increasing population of the village, but it has also brought harmony and a drop in crime to the village.
  • In Malaysia, people maintain a very intimate relationship with trees. “There is a practice of tree planting around houses to the extent that the walls and wooden structures are allowed to give way to the roots of creeping plants, purposely sown at the bases of these structures.” The graveyards in Malaysia are covered so thickly with trees that the entire grounds are cool and sheltered from the tropical sun. The trees are allowed to take root into the graves and it is said that the trees whisper prayers to the creator asking for forgiveness of past transgressions of those buried in that place.
